The big lines, as of November 7, 2026

Of the 13 firsts, 10 are tradable today per NetsDaily’s count, and Brooklyn owes nobody a first round pick outright. Houston holds swap rights on the 2027 first, which is a swap, not a debt, and the difference matters: Brooklyn still picks in 2027, it just might pick from Houston’s slot instead of its own. Denver’s unprotected 2032 first is in the chest too, part of the deal that brought MPJ to Brooklyn.

The kids’ options for next year total about $21.7 million, cheap control over the exact players this rebuild is built around, and no contract on the books runs past 2027 to 28. That is the whole endgame: keep the picks clean, let the kids grow, keep the books flexible, and strike when the right star asks out.

Countdowns this section tracks all season: December 15, when most players signed this summer become trade eligible; February 11, the trade deadline; and June 29, the option and extension window.

The nightly rooting guide

Here is the secret to enjoying a rebuild: on any given night, Brooklyn has a rooting interest in games it is not even playing. Because the chest holds other teams' futures, their losses are our gains. The standing rooting board: root against the Knicks (their 2027, 2029 and 2031 firsts are ours, unprotected), against the Nuggets (their unprotected 2032 first is the crown jewel), for Houston to finish strong in 2027 (the Rockets hold swap rights on our 2027 first, so a weak Houston pick position protects us), and keep an eye on Philadelphia, whose protected first is part of the ledger. Every loss those teams take moves a real Nets asset. This box updates with the standings as the season runs.
